Review: The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

Hi, everyone!

This is The inkblot, and for my first review I'm going to tell you about the book The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, by Catherine M. Valente. I know -- the title hit me at first too, but this is a wonderful read for both children and adults.

When my parents first gave me the book, I wasn't that into it. I tried to read it, but I always found my mind drifting away to other topics.  Also, I was never consistent in my reading. I would start another book and not go back to reading it for a while. And by the time I got back to it again, I had forgotten what had happened earlier in the story and had to start over.

It went in cycles like this for a while, until one day I started reading again and I totally loved it. I don't know what happened. But I got more and more engrossed in the story and soon, I had to apply incredible amounts of willpower to put it down.

The story itself is about a lonely 12 year old girl named September living in Nebraska, bored with her peaceful prairie life. Her father is off fighting in World War II, and her mother works on airplane engines. Then one day, the Green Wind appears at her window and wisks her away to Fairyland. Fairyland is in turmoil under an evil Marquess, who is no older than September herself, and September does not get the gay and merry adventure that she had hoped for at all. At the beginning of her adventure, September meets a witch and her siblings. The Marquess has murdered their kin and stolen a certain spoon that the witches need to tell the future. And so September embarks on a quest to steal back the spoon, although she ends up accomplishing something much more significant in the end. Along the way, she befriends the Wyverary A-L (who is sort of a cross between a dragon and a library)  and the almost human boy Saturday.

This is a rip-roaring adventure told in a similar style to the beautiful victorian fairytale, and I think you will absolutely love it!

The New Improved inkblot.

Hi,  I'm The inkblot!

This is my brand new blog, The inkblot.  Well, actually It's not new. It's a blog that I started when I was  seven.  I just modified it.  But I'm calling it new.  Anyway, it's going to be a blog where I post reviews of good and bad books that I've read.  My reviews should appeal to an audience of anywhere between 9-14.

The first book review I'll post will be about the book The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.  I know.  The title's a bit long. But it's a really great book and I hope you like my review!

Check in soon for new posts!
